Looking good

Rosa ‘Albertine’

This is climbing up the ropes to the E wall of the house, although it’s facing strong competition from the clematis montana. Surprisingly, it’s even better on the neighbours’ N side of the fence.

Wisteria

The wisteria on the back (E facing) wall of the house has now reached the roof. It was planted just over two years ago, is obviously healthy, but hasn’t flowered yet. The variety is Wisteria floribunda ‘Yae-Kokuryu’ (Black Dragon) and it has an AGM.

F2 and F3 looking good

The euphorbia melifera is smelling strongly of honey this year. The symphytum is rather rampant, but easy to control. The hydrangea petiolaris is starting to stick to the wall, and the ivy surely can’t be far behind.

North wall of house

Most of the plants are doing well.

The parthenocissus has already reached a good height. It’ll be interesting to watch for the autumn colour. It probably won’t need cutting back this year.

The white hydrangea I transplanted from the original back garden is very good. Perhaps it needs some sort of support, although it’s not really blocking the neighbours’ gate.

The ivy is not clinging to the wall yet. Perhaps I need to put up a wire and give it some help.

The hydrangea petiolaris is not looking as happy as it was, and the bergenia next to it is much smaller than its siblings that were planted at the same time. Are they in some sort of rain shadow under the clematis?
